I work with an amazing group of students who have various needs and abilities. As a literacy coach for a building of 348 students, who come to school every day ready to learn to engage with their teachers, I am constantly in awe of their commitment to learning. As a Title I school, a majority of our student population is living in poverty, and our school also has a high ESOL population.
Our school motto is that that we are "The Greatest School on Earth!" Truer words were never spoken.
Not only do we believe in educating our students, we also reach out to the families and try to incorporate them in their children's learning. Our teachers are often found out in the community, where our students are living, volunteering their own time to read and work with the children.
My Project
In March of 2020 as our teachers faced school closures, the staff quickly bagged up books from their classroom libraries to send home with students. Many teachers willingly made the sacrifice to ensure that students had books that were engaging and could continue to learn and grow at home. However, now that we have returned, many of the books did not make it back to school.
Again our teachers will always sacrifice a book from their library to a student's home to ensure they were reading.
What a better place for the book to live. Unfortunately, their libraries are in need of replenishing to ensure that students returning to face to face instruction over the next few weeks have books or read in the classroom. Please help us replenish their books to limit their out of pocket spending to provide their students with books that will continue to instill a love of learning.
