I believe that all students can learn and that learning is not only important, it should be fun. "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn" Benjamin Franklin
They love learning new things and always keep me on my toes.
They come from a variety of backgrounds and homes. Many are learning English as a second language and a quarter of my students receive special education support; however, they never cease to amaze me with their ability to try their best everyday. We work together to build a classroom community that is safe, caring, and where they feel successful each day. At our school, we are committed to every student succeeding no matter the obstacles they face by providing high quality instruction for every child, every day in every classroom.
I am running out of reading texts for guided reading and shared reading groups. I try to run more small groups because I can see more students and focus on specific strategies (like word solving strategies, retelling, etc). I can also use these texts for shared reading where I teach the text to the class and we reread the text over a few days. This gives them confidence in reading a text that would be too challenging independently. Then I can disperse the copies into their independent reading bags! Using these resources, I can get kids to level they need to be using text that are fun and engaging!
