As a Special Education teacher, I am lucky that I get to stay with my students as they continue with their education. The students I work with all have different needs varying from cognitive, behavioral and academically. Each year, I love watching them grow!
Fair isn’t everyone getting the same thing Fair is everyone getting what they need to be successful
I work at a Title One school with 79% of the population qualifying for free and reduced price lunch. Despite my students at home needs, they continue to come to school everyday ready to learn.
My students prove that we need to see the able and not the label.
My Project
Majority of my students struggle with reading fluency and accuracy. Therefore, they often rely on having text read to them when working on comprehension and vocabulary development.
I chose engaging books, some of which support inclusivity, for read alouds to support comprehension, vocabulary development, and promote a love of books for my students who struggle with reading.
During a read aloud, I often include supplemental materials to go along with the text to help my students make connections and provide an interactive experience. My students really enjoy read alouds and I love seeing the benefits it has to offer. I am excited to read these new books with them!
