I have the opportunity to work with some of the best 6th graders. My students are never afraid to jump into something new and help each other understand. Their constant kindness, cooperation, and collaboration are inspiring. I often feel like they are the teachers and I'm the student.
My students work hard as they strive for excellence individually and as a united community.
They share their experiences and understanding for the betterment of the classroom. They have great humor and never miss a chance to use it!
My Project
These books are an opportunity for the students to explore and have fun without realizing they are learning! Using small groups, students interact by discussing, connecting, predicting, and reading together. With my students in mind, I have selected books that would they would enjoy as well as challenge them. Since I am a first-year teacher, my classroom library is very limited. Expanding our library expands students understanding.
With these books, my students will be able to see the world and be able to change it for the better.
After reading, students will work together on a project that connects to their book and their community. Reading is wonderful, but I also want to teach them to look beyond the pages.
Using our book clubs also allows for different perspectives to be shared from the literature and their peers. Many of my students haven't traveled or even been out of the state. Reading gives us a glimpse and a taste of other cultures, lives, and views.
