New district opportunities have opened up the amazing world of language learning to our younger learners at the middle school level. I have students with learning setbacks and students who are academically gifted. I have students who are confident and students who are still learning how to find their confidence. Differentiating for all and making language learning accessible at this early, crucial age is vital!
My students are ready to be challenged!
And the Spanish classroom is a new and exciting world. They look for opportunities to speak Spanish inside the classroom, and I'm increasingly getting other teachers and parents report their students speaking Spanish outside the classroom. My students are helpful, kind, and excited to learn!
My Project
To acquire a new language, students need comprehensible input. In a community with limited exposure to Spanish outside the classroom, I would love to provide a text-rich environment to support my students of varying ability levels.
"The more you read, the more things you know!" Help me encourage my students to challenge their brains during our free and voluntary reading time with a plethora of choice of level-appropriate Spanish texts.
I chose many comprehensible novels written specifically for Spanish 1 students with high levels of repetition and low unique word counts. Students will be able to choose which novel they read, empowering them in their language learning, and increasing motivation with the power of choice.
