Our school is a neighborhood school serving approximately 800 students. Our students are from diverse backgrounds and speak a variety of languages. Our students are motivated to learn and look forward to coming to school every day. We also have a very experienced and loyal staff who care for our students and create a nurturing environment conducive to learning.
My students set goals for themselves and they achieve them.
They are smart, kind, and caring. They work hard as individuals and come together as a team. They are learning to regulate their emotions and focus on tasks for appropriate periods of time.
My Project
My third-grade students are a very active bunch and are capable of doing amazing things this year. My students are eager to learn and love whole group activities that allow them to listen to stories, cooperate with peers, and provide movement throughout the lesson.
Our class is requesting a LEGO set and activity table with wobble stools to help us use our hands and energy in appropriate ways in our classroom.
LEGO sets are not only a fun activity students enjoy, they are also an educational tool and the learning possibilities are endless.
LEGO blocks give students the opportunity to use a toy they know and love, as a resource to show and practice what they learn in all subjects, while giving them an opportunity to develop their fine motor skills. The blocks are great for "building" sight words and creating shapes to identify the area and perimeter of. They will provide kinesthetic learners with a concrete way to practice their learning.
We will use these LEGO sets as a curricular tool as well as an outlet for students who need to calm down and regulate emotions through activity and manipulation of objects. Working with LEGO sets is a great way for children to strengthen their fine motor abilities. The activity table will hold all of our LEGO pieces! The wobble chairs will allow for movement and to provide and outlet for students to get out excess energy while remaining in their seats and attending to a task.
