Although many of my students face many challenges outside of school, I strive to ensure all of my students are engaged in learning. Many students try to avoid doing subjects they struggle with. The result is that they fall even further behind. One of the most commonly disliked subjects in school is reading.
When students struggle with reading or simply do not like to read they are likely to fall behind in all areas of school which affects both their education and their life.
Some children have learning disabilities and are so far behind their classmates they are unable to read materials given to the class as a whole. Others find it boring and only do it when they are forced to do it. No matter the reason for not reading, students who do not read consistently struggle with comprehension. Even students who are completely capable of reading the words can find it difficult to understand what they are reading. It is my goal to find new ways to help my children improve both their reading and comprehension skills.
My Project
I love finding fun activities for my students! I am always thinking of ways to help them be engaged in learning and for them to want to be in my class. When they are engaged in the learning process they learn more and retain the information longer.
I do not use worksheets in my classroom.
Worksheets do not give students a sense of purpose and reason to learn. I use activities and lessons that teach the students how they will use the skills in life. I love watching their reactions when they are able to make the connections to understand what they are learning and how they are able to use the information in life.
