My Students
My students are from the South side of Chicago. They have outstanding attendance, come to class on time, and are active participants. They understand the importance of having an education and how their success in high school influences their journey post secondary education.
My students have a diverse learning style preference.
They all have a prefer method even when it comes to writing tasks. Therefore, my students are most engaged and motivated when their learning styles are taken into account.
My Project
Most students have been typically taught through a "One Size Fits All" method, textbooks, throughout their education. Textbooks, unfortunately, tend to not offer a variety of tasks that meet my students needs and preferences. This leads to lack of motivation to learn, especially when learning a second language (Spanish speaking students) and the important skills they need for success in high school college and help them feel better integrated (Freshman Seminar).
By having the resources they need (paper), it allows me to create lessons, projects, activities, etc.
that meet my students needs. It gives me flexibility to approach lessons in a different way instead of the standard teaching through textbooks to ensure my students are learning.
