This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are budding leaders who are constantly balancing the challenges of their home life with their own drive to be successful. My students are resilient; often times they are shouldering burdens unimaginable to the average middle class student.
There are some battles my students should not have to fight; I do not believe my students should have to worry about having enough notebook paper or pencils to be academically successful.
I am in a title one district where over 75% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Unfortunately, some of my students come to school hungry. Lack of reliable transportation often leads to a student missing the breakfast served in the cafeteria. My students know that if I have it, they need only ask, and I will happily share. However, I have limited resources. I spend my summer bargain shopping and soliciting donations to make sure that no student in my care goes without.
My Project
By providing my students with these building materials, my students will be able to design their own moon colonies. My students have designed a colony that can sustain life for 6 months.
Building provides a hands on application for the engineering design process.
Through modeling, my students will apply mathematical concepts to their scientific research.
My students are eager to move their design ideas to a physical structure. Due to Covid, our student's parents have had more financial strains on their households. Your donation provides the supplies to fun learning opportunity.
