Engage With Rigorous Math and Scientific Problem Solving
Help me give my students graphing calculators so they may engage with rigorous math and scientific problem solving and prepare for the rigors of College.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school was formed by individuals who have deep personal and professional ties to Gary and are deeply motivated to create a truly high performing example that redefines expectations of what a school can achieve in Gary.
As one of our schools Teacher Leader Fellows, I am responsible for ensuring students are taught a rigorous STEM curriculum so they may perform and avail of boundless opportunities in STEM.
Our school is rooted in our five values team, grit, purpose, joy, and power and exists as a community anchor to ensure our students and families are provided with access to additional opportunities and services necessary to achieve life-long success.
My Project
Students will use these calculators to graph systems of linear equations, create algebraic models for linear and non-linear relations, and derive quadratic and exponential functions to represent real world phenomena including predicting rate of transmission of Covid-19. In addition to this, students will apply the scientific calculators to prepare models of motion.
Many students do not have the necessary resources at home to set themselves up to engage with rigorous math and scientific problem solving the classroom demands.
With your contributions, students will be equipped with scientific graphing calculators so they may become prepared for the rigors of college level math and scientific problem solving.
