My Students

Our class of half typically developing and half students with special needs grows through experiencing learning together.

Exploring the world around them in a safe, thoughtfully guided way to maximize learning is the focus of our classroom of three- to five-year-old students.

Going to preschool is a big step in their lives; they are learning so much as we help them form the building blocks of communication, problem-solving, investigation, analysis, and other student skills. Social skills are becoming more and more important as the world experiences difficulties together, and we seek to support those skills perhaps most of all.

It's our delight to provide opportunities for our preschool friends to expand their understanding academically, socially, emotionally, and in many other ways. Our aim is to help them begin building skills that will allow them to become life-long learners and forces for good in their communities.

My Project

Many of the children in my preschool class did not attend school last year due to COVID-19 and are hungry for the learning they might have missed. Their need for interacting with each other and with learning materials drives me to come up with ever more creative ways of reaching them.

Bright, colorful, interesting materials have the best chance of engaging all types of learners.

Even a splash of color on the alphabet punches increases interest, perhaps long enough to find interesting letters for making one's name. Kinetic sand is always a favorite and can provide sensory satisfaction as letters and numbers are learned. And puppets provide important opportunities for pretend play that increases social-emotional learning.
