My math classroom is located in a small rural East Texas city, and our public school is the very heart of our town. We are a Title I school where almost half of our students are on free or reduced lunch. The students entering 4th grade are in the intermediate school, and they are usually very excited (and nervous) about the new environment and the new experiences it brings.
My students are creative, energetic, and very supportive of one another.
In my classroom, I encourage them to explore and search for ways to solve problems--not only in math, but in their daily life experiences. They come to me on various academic levels, and my goal for them is not only to show a progression in their learning, but for them to also feel successful and to take ownership and pride in their learning.
My Project
The iPads will be used many different ways in my classroom. Various apps will be used by the students to practice and enhance math skills and concepts that I have already taught. This will allow for differentiation of learning so that my students can be engaged and challenged at their own levels. The iPads will also be used by my students to create and produce digital products that showcase their learning. These products can then be added to their digital portfolios and shared with family and friends. I can also use the iPads to record instructions for assignments, activities, and projects so that my students and their parents have a clear understanding of my expectations.
In order for students to be successful, productive members of society in the 21st century, they must learn how to use technology successfully and responsibly.
Bringing that technology into my classroom and making it relevant to education enables me to engage my students in their learning and create an environment that is full of excitement and motivation. These iPads will allow me to provide technology experiences for some of my students who do not have those kinds of opportunities outside of school.
