My Students
Hello!
The school I teach at is in a low socioeconomic neighborhood in Oregon.
I have 22 third grade students and my students' families have immigrated from all over the world. There are more than 7 home languages spoken in my classroom. With the wide range of cultural backgrounds, TIME for Kids would be a wonderful resource to discuss current events from around the world. In addition, about half of my students are below grade level in reading and writing.
My Project
With this subscription, students will be able to have real-world discussions about current events and topics related to their lives. It will allow them to begin having informative conversations and develop an understanding of the importance of newspapers. I will be able to use topics covered in these magazines to help build thematic units around information students are interested in learning about. This will help build engagement and enthusiasm for literacy in the classroom. These magazines will also allow students to practice reading with their families and promote literacy in the household. With the school year just beginning, we will be able to access and utilize the magazines throughout the entire school year.
