My students need a Primary Teaching Easel, which is movable for lessons in different parts of our classroom. Guided reading books are most important to them. We also need an alphabet chart and magnetic 10 frames.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) kindergarten classroom which means our classroom is made up of both general and special education students. I am the general education teacher and Mrs. DiMaggio is the special education teacher in this classroom. Our students need a lot of support from both teachers considering they do not have much academic support outside of the school. We are located in a low-income/high poverty neighborhood in the Bronx. Almost all of our students receive free or reduced price lunch and free breakfast each and everyday.
Besides the circumstances, our students are excited and motivated to come to school each and every day.
Our students have a wide range of abilities starting from below grade level. They struggle daily in reading and writing since many are still learning the English language. For some of our students, school is the safest and most stable place in their world. We are hopeful to create the most positive experience in school for our early learners.
My Project
The Teaching Easel will allow for both teachers to engage students in 2 separate groups at the same time. In an ICT classroom, it is important to create separate groups so that individual needs of the students are met in small group. It is movable, which helps us learn in different parts of the classroom. The easel is an excellent source for our visual learners and our special education students. The guided reading books allow the teacher to meet the learners and target specific areas of intervention in literacy.
Most importantly, guided reading can help early learners become strong and independent readers.
We are in need of engaging texts, that capture the interest the children and meet all of their levels. We also are in need of an alphabet chart, which helps children at their very beginning stages of reading, letter sounds, and letter recognition. Many of our students begin school without recognizing any letters. Lastly, we are requesting a magnetic 10 frame, which is frequently used in Kindergarten math. These supplies can help create a more engaging, hands on environment in our kindergarten classroom!
