Environmental degradation is plaguing Hawaii's students and endangering their future. Today's students will face unprecedented changes in how we generate energy. Our students need innovative learning opportunities to prepare them for the environmental and social challenges they will encounter.
Each morning I greet a group of students who come from a variety backgrounds and experiences.
Many of my students are struggling to cope with the multifaceted dilemmas of living in poverty. Some of my students have experienced more than I can imagine in their short 11 years. Yet, these students have so much to offer our classroom community. From the student that meets me each morning with a smile to offer a helping hand as I juggle my many bags into the classroom to the student that has learned to believe that with tenacity she can achieve, each student has unique qualities that I hope to develop in the coming year. It’s these students that motivate me to go to work each morning, compelling me with their stories and capturing my heart with their willingness to persevere amongst rampant injustices.
My Project
With the assistance of people like you, these alternative energy activities will provide students with necessary skills to meet environmental, science, and math challenges. Students will learn about alternative energy and create a solar powered vehicle. Students will learn how solar power is a viable and sustainable power. Most importantly, our solar power project will prepare students to become environmental stewards of our ecological community.
Remember, the future of Hawaii depends on the condition of it’s children.
Out here on the coast, our children possess infinite potential and are given so little. If our children are given the chance, nurtured and provided with meaningful learning opportunities, I know they can develop into incredible leaders.
