My students come from hardworking families with good hearts and great community spirit. When one person succeeds, everyone is rewarded. There is a palpable feeling of pride and a common goal to increase opportunity and support meaningful change locally and beyond. Moreover, our district is diverse. We have students who live on farms in rural sections and students who live in urban sections of the district sharing the same classes, meals, and sporting events. The community revolves around the four schools: two elementary, one middle, and one high school, which educate our children’s minds, nurture their spirits, provide numerous extracurricular events and activities, and encourage their love of learning in every way possible.
My Project
In AIS (Academic Intervention Services) class, we work on improving reading, comprehension, and writing skills. We'd like to read some high interest, contemporary literature to not only achieve the aforementioned goals but to enjoy the time spent doing it. Learning can be fun.
Sometimes it just takes the right book to get a student to love to read!
I'd like to get some other high interest, yet appropriately challenging books, to share with students and continue to nurture the excitement of reading a good book. All American Boys and Buried Onions are sure to continue to engage my reluctant readers.
