The students in my first grade classroom are eager learners. They have a variety of academic abilities and opportunities to learn when it comes to reading and writing, but lack the materials to learn through different lenses... I would like to provide them an opportunity to learn through a more hands on experimental approach. All of my students are very excited about science, math, and love learning through experimentation and observation. They thrive on lessons and activities with open ended questions because it promotes discussion, conversation, and team work, all while enhancing their abilities to think outside of the box.
By providing students an opportunity to work with tools like Gears, Magnatiles, SmartMax, Marbles, Osmos, and Geo Boards allow learners to investigate, ask questions, and learn with an open mind while having fun and laughing with their peers.
STEM related activities help promote free-play and do not have a right or wrong answer, therefore they encourage students to try new things.
My Project
Students will use the Magna-tiles, SmartMax, and Marble labs to experiment with science. Learning with these hands on activities will allow students to feel the magnetic force though the positive and negative ends of each manipulative, all while laughing, learning, and playing with their peers.
In my classroom, students will have the opportunity to explore their creative side through the use of gears, marble run, geo boards, and oil pastel crayons.
Students learn in a variety of ways, and by having these activities be apart of my daily classroom community the kinesthetic, tactile, and visual learners will be able to par take in activities that best suit their educational needs.
Through the use of Mental Blox and Osmo students will be working on their ability to use hand eye coordination while being motivated to learn through an entertaining and educational activity. These activities also allow students to work with peers and encourage new thinking strategies.
Staying organized is also very important. Students will be able to keep track of these activities if bins are properly labeled and placed in the classroom. Students will benefit from the storage bins because they will allow students to access all of the materials quickly in an organized fashion.
