Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come excited to learn in two languages. Parents voted a few years ago to have uniforms as the dress code for the students. This helps students to stay focused on learning and provides a positive learning environment for each student. They are in the Spanish Immersion Dual Language classroom. They come from a diverse cultural, linguistic, and economic background. More than 85% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. My bright students get an opportunity to learn English and Spanish literacy every day, Math in English and Science in Spanish. 25% of my students' first language is English, and 50% of my students' first language is Spanish, and 25% speak another language. They all share the journey to graduate from high school bicultural, bilingual, and biliterate and it all begins in my kindergarten classroom.
My Project
My students need materials in the classroom that will support their creativity, social skills during our Science and bilingual centers.
Everyday, students have bilingual or science centers where they have an opportunity to learn hands-on about our world.
The magnetic tile kits will provide endless opportunities for them to plan and create structures with the help of each other. They will have opportunities to work together, which will allow students to negotiate language and put their social skills to practice as well. Students will be able to share their creativity with the rest of the class and challenge each other to make stronger, longer, taller and better structures with the tiles. The magnetic tiles will offer endless opportunities for my current and future students in the classroom.
