This is my first year at a new school and I will be teaching a large group of 5th graders. I love 5th graders because they are becoming much more aware of the world around them. They are beginning to want more independence, but are still looking for someone to guide them.
I'm so excited to teach this group of students; teaching brings me a fulfillment and joy that almost nothing else does.
Thank you for your support in making a difference in children's lives so the world can be a better place!
My Project
In a world where we are constantly hearing about school shootings, hate crimes, and war; it is obvious that something needs to change. As a teacher, I take very seriously my responsibility to help raise children to become citizens who give back to society in positive ways. One of the most important traits a person can have in order to end hate in the world is empathy: the power to feel what others feel.
Read alouds allow for children to step into someone else’s shoes and feel what that person feels.
I have selected quality literature to read aloud to my class that provide a foundation to see the world from another’s perspective and also facilitate authentic dialogue. Having empathy and being able to discuss our differences are two important and vital skills to have in order to make a difference in the world by ending hate.
