My students are from all over the world, and they are eager to learn from each other, creating a true cross-cultural exchange of ideas and perspectives. They vary in their English abilities, and they show lots of enthusiasm for practicing English, as well as sharing useful phrases from their own language, which I encourage in order to help grow more worldly students. We work together to create a more student-led classroom, which helps them to take risks in participating in class, which means they learn more. When they can teach another student something, it helps them feel more confident in their abilities and in their role as a student in my class.
My Project
My students fight for the few floor pillows I already have in my classroom, so I would love to add to their options through this project. I have chosen some of the best selling chairs and floor pillows from Amazon to add to my classroom to encourage my students to get comfortable as they settle in for our daily independent reading.
I know it sounds silly, but if it takes cozy places to curl up with a good book in order to get them to read, then I want to give it to them.
Research shows again and again just how important reading is, so anything that gets them excited to read helps them in the long run.
