"Ohhhhhh, I get it!" As a teacher, those are the moments you live for. To see that light bulb go off, especially for the students who have to work a little harder than others, brings so much joy. Teaching at a Title I school sometimes means teachers have to get creative and think outside of the box to make these moments happen.
Despite the lives they may have at home, our students deserve the best while at school.
Our school is staffed with some of the most dedicated and compassionate people around. The students we are lucky enough to work with every day bring so much joy to our lives. We get to spend time not only working on their academics but on their basic needs, social deficits and emotional struggles.
I love finding ways to support the whole child. I try to make the most of my time with them, beyond their reading and writing skills! Although, those are pretty important, too.
These materials will promote prosocial skills in the classroom. Students will think they are just playing, not knowing they are learning important life skills along the way. They will have to work in teams, share, use appropriate vocabulary in a social setting and use their creative side.
I am ecstatic to see how my students use these materials to strengthen their social/emotional skills.
And beyond that, how these new tools will positively affect their school and home lives! We cannot forget about important it is to teach to the whole child and not just to the test scores. This project is just another step in making that happen!
