Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our small school is nestled at the bottom of beautiful mountains and perfectly placed in the desert. Being so rural we have a diverse population but prevalent in low income families. Our school serves 6-8 students and brings them up in a close knit school community.
My classroom is filled with wiggly teenagers who are filled with curiosity and heart.
As a fourth year teacher, I am constantly trying to find ways to benefit students within the current education system, whether that be with flexible seating, increased differentiated content to keep them curious, or simply going outside to sit in the sunshine while they learn.
My Project
As a fourth year teacher, I have seen that reading is one of the most difficult tasks to keep students to. Students often become distracted or they do not engage in their book because they don't know what peaks their interest.
I am aiming to encourage a comfortable environment in order to increase reading habits and productivity.
I am asking for different pillows and bean bags to give students options of seating to work or specifically read. As adults, we struggle to sit for long periods of time and concentrate. I do not expect for teens to be productive and still in a rigid desk for 80 minutes straight.
