Science is more meaningful, and certainly more fun if there are hands on discoveries. The students can build electromagnets instead of looking at a picture. We create art often. Right now we are creating brochures about our state.
Needless to say, my students are fantastic little humans.
We attend a public school in California. We are an urban community, with many english language learners and 40% of students qualifying for free school meals. Our school has 533 students in grades k-5. I teach 4th grade, and it is always a grand adventure. I love the curriculum, and watching our students make progress both academically and socially. Right now we are mastering long division and double digit multiplication. The kids are happy when they 'get it'. Fun and satisfying.
My Project
We will use the rock collection to observe and identify types of rock, and how they were formed. We can test for mineral hardness using the kit. We will use the magnets to reinforce the concept of magnetism in the solar system and to build compasses. We will use the simple motors and dynamo torch to begin experimenting with electrical engineering and potential. We will also be building electro magnets. I have added several staple art supplies to this project as we will create posters and presentations about our discoveries in geology, magnetism and electricity.
Your support will make a measurable difference to all my students, and provide real experiences which will engage them and provide a better understanding of the subject content.
Your help will help students this year and into the future, as most of the request are for re-usable items. I will photograph the kids using the supplies so you will see for yourself.
