They are working each day to improve their skills in order to become confident readers. This class provides each student with skills to help them become successful adults.
We work on developing a love for reading that will last a lifetime! Each day a good portion of our time is spent in guided reading. My students would love to have two more options to pick books from within my classroom. Each day they develop skills and confidence with reading.
My Project
In my classroom I work with high school aged students who are reading below grade level. They often come to me with a negative stigma and attitude towards reading. It has always been a skill that is hard for them and at times it can be embarrassing. My job is to help break the mold and motivate my students to find joy in reading.
We work each day on basic skills to build both fluency and comprehension.
Beyond this I try to find books that help reluctant readers find that reading CAN be FUN! We spend 30-45 minutes reading a chapter book and discussing the reading as a class.
This donation would help offer my classroom more of a selection to pick from. The book A Long Way Down is one that will really draw male readers who do not love to read. My students also LOVE scary stories. The book of real accounts of Scary Stories will leave my students begging to read more. Any donations towards this project is greatly appreciated!
