Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach third grade students at a school located in an inner city and low-income family neighborhood. My students are mostly below grade level in reading, and are in need to things to help motivate them to read.
Most of my students do not have books at home or adults who read to or with them. Approximately 25% of the students in my class have I.E.P's that require me to reduce distractions and provide them with opportunities for frequent breaks. Over half of my students are below grade level readers and frustrated. We make every attempt to provide opportunities for students to read at their ability levels through independent reading with leveled books.
I need bean bags to motivate students to want to read, give them a place to go to focus on their own reading without being distracted, and to provide them with the ability to move around the classroom. Sitting at the bean bags will also give the students a break from sitting in their hard student chairs, this will be especially special when they read their leveled reader for enjoyment.
We have one chair in our classroom (in the library area) I found at a yard sale. All 25 students want to sit in that chair. I know that having multi-colored bean bags will encourage my students to read more often, focus on their reading, and improve their on-task behaviors. You will make all of this possible for my students!
