Encourage Critical Thinking With a Document Camera in 2nd Grade!
Help me give my students a Document Camera! They are a great tool to allow teachers to take what used to be individual assignments and turn them into class assignments, creating more discussion, interaction, and maintaining classroom engagement.
My classroom is full of curious and engaged readers, authors, scientists, mathematicians and artists. I teach students who attend a Title I school in Oakland, California with a school-wide free breakfast and lunch program. Even though my students come from all cultures, life experiences and various incomes (some with very limited resources) they come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically.
I am grateful to have a diverse classroom of students who work together through all of their differences and inspire each other to take risks.
I take great pleasure helping my students grow into life-long learners and critical thinkers.
A document camera is what every dusty, old overhead projector wishes it could be! It can project a page of a book or a three-dimensional object onto the screen for the whole class to see.
One of the first places we will use it is in our Science Inquiry lab!
With a document camera I will be able to:
- zero in on the wing of a butterfly
- project both a question and a sample student answer
- take a series of photos and project it as our caterpillar transforms into a butterfly
- work together to identify and label the butterfly parts
