My students need compass sets that include compasses, protractors, pencil sharpeners, etc., as well as graphing paper to compete various activities using the protractors and compasses.
Creative. Imaginative. Diverse. These are just a few words to describe my students. I have five business skills classes with a total of 150 incredible thinkers who come in ready to face the day no matter the challenges they face at home. My students are becoming leaders in our classroom, our school, and in their personal lives.
Many of my students come from high poverty homes.
Many live with relatives rather than parents. The challenges they face in getting their basic needs met are many. They are still some of the most incredible young men and women I've ever known.
My Project
The items requested will be used throughout the school year with various activities. The compass set that includes protractors and compasses will be used to for students to further their learning to construct triangles when given conditions, as well as measuring angles of the constructed triangles.
The supplies requested will give my students the opportunity to 'see' how math relates to real life and skills in the workplace, particularly architecture.
Geometry is a huge standard for our students. However, we lack the funding and supplies to effectively teach them.
The compass set requested will allow my students to construct polygons of all sorts, and have hands on experience measuring the angles of given polygons. My students will have the opportunity to create designs on the graph paper. My struggling students will have the opportunity to build on their skills with hands on practice.
