I need research-based literacy materials that will enable me to provide more effective instruction to my struggling readers and ensure that they as well as my other students have bright futures as readers.
I love teaching! I have loved it for 28 years! I enjoy the anticipation and excitement of my students as they face new challenges, and I enjoy looking for new ways to make learning more interesting and engaging. A day in my classroom is a day filled with learning, respect, and hard work. My school is in a rural area, and the students that I teach come from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Our class motto is, "In this room, we don't do easy.
We make easy happen through hard work and learning!" I have high expectations for my students and do everything in my ability to help them achieve their goals! I enjoy planning creative lessons and projects as much as my students enjoy working on them!
My Project
It is easy to become complacent in your teaching; however, I don’t like to settle. As I grow as a teacher and as the world changes around me, each year brings new challenges. With the introduction of Common Core and higher level reading skills, I have found that our old basal reader simply doesn’t address many of the literacy skills now presented at the third grade level. The materials I am requesting are professional books that will help me learn new techniques for teaching fluency and will better equip me with ways to address and teach the rigorous types of questions my students are now faced with. Literacy is vital to a learner’s growth in all areas, and I want to ensure that they are ready for the world some day!
The various books I have requested are books that will teach me how to better utilize small-group and large-group instruction so that my students can grow as readers.
These resources will not only build on my expertise but will help me bring new refreshing ideas to my students.
