My students need a littleBits Electronics Premium Kit, Cubelets SIX robot blocks, Sphero SPRK+ STEAM Educational Robot and a Makey Makey kit for more opportunities to explore and create with technology.
My students are culturally diverse. Their diversity is their commonality, however. My students don't focus on their differences. They accept each other as they are. This is what makes them special in my eyes
My students are curious.
They seek to explore the unknown and they prefer to do that in a hands-on manner. A majority of my students don't get the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities that support or enhance their education. School is often their only connection to a brighter future.
My Project
The materials that I am requesting will give my students opportunities to experiment and explore with technology. Each of these specific tools will help spark their imagination and show them how easy technology can be to manipulate. I expect it to initiate a hunger to learn more.
My hope for this project is that it will empower my students to visualize themselves working in a technology-related field in the future.
Their current socioeconomic status does not encourage them to believe that they have the capabilities necessary to perform on this type of intellectual level as a career. I want them to see that the possibility does exist.
The materials that I have included in this project include age-appropriate and beginner-level materials that my students can easily be successful with. The Makey Makey will offer many opportunities for imaginative exploration and will especially appeal to game players. I am hopeful that the Cubelets and Sphero will spark an interest in coding. I believe that knowledge of computer coding will significantly enhance the career opportunities that my students may one day explore. The littleBits Electronics Kit and the Snap Circuits Electronic Discovery Kit will provide even more opportunities to advance their scientific thinking. I really like that all of these tools will allow my students to build upon their working knowledge. They can begin with easier projects and progress to more difficult projects.
