Inside of our classroom, we do our very best to build a sense of community where everyone feels comfortable and can do their best work. My students are a combination of 2nd and 3rd graders that really love any opportunity that are given to have choice in their work and their actions within the classroom. They are curious, hard working, and have a range of needs. These students are more motivated when the experiences I set up for them are individualized to them, allow them to move around, and give them choice.
My Project
This project will allow students to complete independent work in a way that keeps them motivated. Several of the students in my classroom need to wiggle and move. These seating options will allow for these students to do so as they work independently, listen to the teacher read or teach, and break out into groups that give them both privacy and allow for them to collaborate in groups. These seating options will allow for students to keep their minds paying attention to what is going on in the classroom as their bodies are given the option to move. This allows their brains to focus on learning rather than the need to wiggle.
