Empowering Students Through Art: Using iPads and Osmo
My students need two iPad minis, two protective cases, and the Osmo gaming system in order to empower students through art and to share their learning.
Remember creating your first work of art in school that you were truly proud of and wanting to share it with the world? Today my students have that capability...if we had the devices. My students can use iPads to not only create art, videos, and books but they can also share their projects via apps.
In my regular education classroom I have 23 second graders who have diverse learning needs, but for the most part they are bright, active, hands-on learners.
I have one student who is physically unable to write so she uses one of iPads we have in class to read, write, and do math activities exclusively. This freedom to express herself has been very rewarding. Having more iPads in class would make sharing our resources equitable for all the students. In our classroom we have a few MacBook laptops and two iPads, which the student love to use. My students do not have access to the school iPads because they are reserved for K-1 classes. With the ever-growing apps that help students create videos, pictures, and representations of their learning we just do not have enough devises to go around.
My Project
To help use art to empower my students they need iPad minis and protective cases, as they become more efficient digital learners as the world changes. I will utilize these items to help students create digital stories, access digital imagery, and record their understanding of lessons taught. With new iPads, my students will have more chances to interact and integrate technology on a daily basis. Students will create slideshows and videos in small research groups as I work with small guided groups in math and reading, making our learning time more beneficial.
The Osmo system will help to build critical and creative thinkers while still providing the opportunity to practice word-building skills in a fun and less monotonous way. The Osmo apps Masterpiece and Newton help empower students through art as they create pictures and creatively solve physics problems. As students create projects they will share them with their parents and classmates via the Seesaw app.
Technology has changed education for many students, but many of my students are not given this access to this resource due to lack of funding.
The iPads and the Osmo learning system will empower my students through art by giving my students the opportunity to think more creatively and critically. They will also be more engaged and able to discover more about the world around them. Please help our students to expand their knowledge, and become globally competitive.
