Creating a product is a must in education today. My students rotate math stations and create an end product at each station. This project will allow them to do much more then just cut out paper; I teach math by "Empowering Students Through Art."
Our class is widely diverse with both high and low levels.
Being in a military town, my kids come from all over the country with many different types of backgrounds. Being so diverse, I want to get everyone on the same level in math class this year. I have 56 kids this year that will all benefit from the items being requested in this project for their math stations. These students are coming from a diverse background of levels and exposure. I want these students to come in wanting to learn, and to see an inviting and fun environment where they should feel proud to learn and want to ask questions. My students come from different types of families and may not always have the materials to get the best education. With this project, I want to empower my students through art. By being creative, they will master their math in ways other than just "using numbers".
My Project
With the materials I requested, my students will benefit in a multitude of ways. First, I will be able to paint the remaining of my tables with dry erase paint which the kids love already. They will be able to draw pictures, diagrams and work out math problems with markers instead of just paper. Next, they will be able to take 3d figures and decompose them flat into geometric nets. They will also be furthering their motivation levels with growth mindset materials, and hands-on activities and resources. The Cricut cartridge will allow for students to get even more creative on their Cricut Explore Air Machine with new fonts. Through all of these resources, this project will find multiple mini-projects in my classroom, increase District scores, and promote positive teamwork in a collaborative classroom environment.

Stations in my classroom will be driven in a different direction including more art and thinking out the processes through drawing, sketching and "thinking out loud." Drawing on the tables with markers, staying motivated with growth mindset materials, and getting deeper with hands-on manipulatives is the kind of learning my diverse learners need.
