Kindergarten is a time for learning to be creative, creating things and using that budding artistic side of children. We have 20 of the most wonderful little people in our classroom. They come to us full of excitement about school and love getting to create.
I teach at a Charter School in middle Georgia.
Our families are excited to be able to have their students in a school that will serve them from kindergarten until 12th grade graduation. We have a wonderful community of learners and parents who support the work done in the classroom. The majority of our parents donate over 20 hours a year to helping make our school wonderful.
When asked about art my students say: "Art is so fun and I love it. I do art every chance I get!", "When you get to paint it is very fun.", "I am creative! Art is my favorite thing to do." Art is more than just a fun activity though. There are multiple studies about how helpful creating is for your brain. The combination of motor and cognitive processing is shown to cause improvements in the functional connectivity between the frontal, posterior, and temporal cortices. All that is a scientific way to say art is good for you. We are lucky to be in a school where our administration encourages the arts.
My Project
We will use these papers to create weekly. Every week we try to include some special art activity in our center time that goes with our lesson. Many students learn better when there is an activity that includes more than just lecture learning. When we talk about the needs of plants and we make plants with dirt, water, air, and the sun it is easier for a child to remember.
This project is so important because all schools have to be frugal with their budget.
We want to have plenty of art supplies available for our students. Having plenty of paper in a variety of colors and textures will allow us to be more creative in what we do with our students.
Thank you so much for reading our project and considering helping us. We are grateful for any support we can obtain.
"We love ART! It is just so much fun."
