Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"By too much sitting still, the body becomes unhealthy; and soon the mind." by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
My students are 4-5 years old, enthusiastic, energetic, and inquisitive children.
The students want to explore and play and they do not understand when they are not able to participate in a certain activity due to limited resources. My school is a bilingual charter school serving a lower income Hispanic population.
My Project
My four-year-old students learn best through play. When I first introduce the letter of the day the children may not get the concept of the printed letter and what it represents. Using their love of art, creativity and imagination I allowed them to create what they think the letter represents. My students will be able to have a choice of what to create with the materials requested on this project. Some students will use the roll on confetti glue and make the shape of the letter. Other children will draw a cat shape in order to show that a cat represents the letter C. "Empowering students through art" will be the best way to teach literacy and math to my students and I can't wait to give the children more options to be able to pick from.
This project will help children's developmental skills through art.
Art helps the students with their motor skills, language development, decision making, and visual learning. The students will be drawing, sculpting, and creating what they have learned for the day; the student will have a more meaningful learning experience when they take part in the decision making of their craft.
