Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Working with students who grow up in an area of extreme poverty is an incredible challenge and gift that I get to experience each day. I am incredibly lucky to have been given the opportunity to work with such a diverse group of learners. About 40% of the students at our school are English Language Learners, coming from many different countries around the world.
Urban school students often do not have access to the resources they need to truly engage in meaningful learning experiences.
100% of the students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students do not have access to books or computers with internet access. The needs at our school are extremely high, but our students have so much potential to succeed.
My Project
In my science classroom, students often get the opportunity to develop solutions to real world problems. They are encouraged to explore their own ideas, plan their own investigations and are empowered to take control of their own learning.
The PocketLab Sensor will allow students to explore forces and motion in a real and meaningful way.
Students will be able to use the data they collect during their investigations to design and create actual prototypes of highway barriers that can help to keep people safe during a car crash. The Pocket Lab will certainly elevate the learning experiences for my students and will have a huge impact on their lives.
