This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In our South Georgia middle school, we are blessed to educate our future inventors, scientists, nurses, humanitarians, doctors, and leaders of the world. Our future leaders come from diverse backgrounds, but when they come together, they form a family that creates a cooperative learning community that is committed to excellence and success in ALL they do.
Even through their differences, our future leaders share a deep commitment to leading, challenging, and motivating each other to succeed in ALL of their goals.
This project will afford the opportunity for our 6th-8th grade future leaders to learn from the experiences of others, develop empathy, and feel empowered by reading and comprehending diverse texts that create an inclusive, representative, and equitable learning experience for ALL.
My Project
In the words of Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop, "When there are enough books available that can act as mirrors and windows for all children, they will see that we can celebrate both our differences and similarities."
My goal for this project is to provide a collection of books that promote inclusion, multiculturalism, and diversity for ALL students.
Learning about others is key in developing tolerance, acceptance, and empathy. This collection of books will allow our students to broaden their horizons, open their minds to new and differing viewpoints, and promote social action to combat injustice.
