My Students
My 180+ students span a large instructional range and will be placed in lab groups who will support each other’s skill ranges. My students are in an advanced course where they are learning the 9th grade Physical Science standards as 8th graders. My students are always working on inquiry based labs that allow for hands on learning which is engaging and boosts students comprehension and interest in science concepts.
The hands-on nature of inquiry based labs benefits all students, especially students who might struggle with science concepts.
This type of “independent study” contributes to engagement in class and instills an enjoyment of science.
My Project
I will use Family Engagement Innovators Program, an interactive homework assignment where students complete a set of digital activities in school and then "teach" what they learned to a family member using a fun, hands-on activity at home, to help my students better understand the concepts we are covering in class. Family Playlists will transform how my students and I share what they are learning at school with those at home and will hopefully drive student engagement, mastery and social-emotional learning. Being able to reteach a concept will help solidify the students understanding or highlight areas of weakness that need additional coverage.
