Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
These students are from many different backgrounds and many of them speak English as their second language. They are excited about fifth grade but lack the motivation to challenge themselves and my goal this year is to change that.
This school is considered Title One in an urban part of North Carolina where 100% of our students receive free or reduced lunch.
This school's demographic is about 50% Hispanic or ESL and 50% African-American. When asked what need all students have in common, I believe that it is love and support. I know that they will flourish when we can work together to accomplish this engaging, welcoming and safe environment for them to learn and grow.
My Project
These materials will be used in various ways to engage and meet the needs of my students. I love to make social studies lessons come to life by creating the scene in a room transformation. Many of the materials listed like black lights, fake grass, and inflatable soccer goals make that possible for me. It is so important to make school a place where kids want to be and where they feel safe and motivated.
I hope to create an environment that keeps them guessing and wanting more when they come in the next day.
Other materials, like the carpet and microphone, are helpful to create an environment that is welcoming and engaging for these students. I know that all of these materials will literally be put into good hands, and that my students will benefit in more ways than one for having access to them. Thank you for your support!
