Help me give my students Unicef Power Bands. These bands track steps and unlock necessary food for children in need. It can be easy for my students to feel that they are helpless- this opportunity can change that.
I teach special education to students with mild to moderate disabilities. They are brave and hard working. Not many of us can relate to the feeling of not being able to read, no matter how much effort or work is put into it. Every day at school is a challenge, and yet my students show up happy and ready to try again.
I want to foster this spirit of hard work and growth mindset that is so naturally abundant in children.
Each student deserves to see the results of their hard work, and be valued for the individual that they are.
In our classroom, we live by the quote: "What will YOU do to make the world awesome?" We are hoping to use these UNICEF power bands as a way to empower our kids. As students with mild to moderate learning disabilities, they will not only benefit from the motivation to exercise, but they will make the world awesome by feeding other children in need.
Struggling academically can make students feel isolated, that there is nothing they can do right.
These bands would give my students the opportunity to make a difference in a place that often brings discouragement and disappointment- school.
