My students need a dependable Best-Buy listening center to help reinforce crucial literacy skills and I already have so many books and CDs to go with it.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our second-grade students are a diverse group of future leaders with huge potential. They are all very excited to learn and explore. We have readers and mathematicians that are at many different levels of learning and have various learning styles. They are given many different types of assignments and are introduced concepts using various modalities, which include, hands-on, technology, direct instruction and much more! They learn in pairs, small group, and as a class, interacting often. The demographics of our students and their families vary. There are students with many different ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic status, and come from many areas of our community. Our students participate in a grade level community service project and are required to complete an individual community service project each year. It is our hope that we encourage them to be active citizens in their community growing up and into adulthood. We are lucky to have a great group of children that will lead us in the future, so we want to put our hearts into teaching them all we can!
My Project
This Best-Buy Listening Center will be a great addition to our classroom literacy centers. Students enjoy having books read aloud to them. We have so many books with CDs that entertain and inform them, but our current boombox with headphones is always giving us problems, leaving my students frustrated.
Having a dependable listening center will allow students to answer comprehension questions and complete book reports after each book, expose them to many different genres of books and encourage them to independently read other books that are similar to books they enjoy or written by the same author.
This will also help students increase their listening comprehension skills which is crucial in second grade and every grade after. The comprehension skills gained by listening and answering questions lay the foundation for learning in all future grades well into college.
