This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am the Mental Health Clinician at a high school in CA and I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to offer therapeutic services to wide range of students. However, in our current climate of trauma and uncertainty I feel that all the students deserve a chance to express their feelings through art.

Yes!!!

I want to be able to offer the students a healthy outlet in which then can express what they are feeling and thinking through art. For them to understand who they are and why they feel what they feel.

Many of the students who attend high school have experienced major traumatic events and on a daily basis are confronted with environmental stressors that impact their ability to succeed in the school environment but I feel they are able to express through art there feelings then they have a better change to succeed.

Please help me bring a healthy perspective on expressing emotions. Thank you

My Project

Trauma and stressful event occurred to my students every day. Many of them are not able to express in words their feelings and thoughts. That is why art is so important.

My hope is for my students to make connections between their own feelings (anger, frustration, hope, fear, worry) through art (shapes, lines, words, pictures) by engaging in art.

The supplies will allow me to create an opportunity for my students of the high school to find a healthier way to manage, process, and express their emotions and feelings. The dream: for art to be a standard in helping students express themselves.
