My students need a way to relate and understand what they are feeling. These books and relatable characters will help them learn to manage their emotions!
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything. My heart hurts for them when I meet those little guys that struggle to self-regulate their emotions.
My students always walk into class eager to learn new things.
I teach at an elementary school in rural Utah. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful! My classroom has always been a safe place for my students, a place where they want to come every day and learn new things!
My Project
Every year I have kids come to my classroom that struggle with expressing their emotions appropriately and effectively. Every year it seems to become more and more prevalent. These little kids have so many emotions inside of them that they don't know what to do with all of it. These books will be used in mini lesson time in my classroom to help them understand what they are feeling as well as understand how we behave and conduct ourselves in school.
My students' behavior and acceptance of themselves and each other will improve through explicit instruction on emotions and how to handle these emotions!
I am so excited to implement these ideas into my classroom next year and for many years to come!
I have chosen to incorporate the Worry Woo books and the Worry Woo monsters into my mini lesson time especially at the beginning of the school year. These books do great things to help children learn about their emotions such as loneliness and frustration and the books help them understand strategies to handle these emotions rather than acting out in class. At the beginning of first grade my goal is to spend more time talking about feelings and emotions as well as how to succeed in school. The books that I have chosen will help students understand that it's ok to make mistakes and it's ok to feel the things we are feeling.
