I have been fortunate enough to teach for over 23 years in our vast school district of 44 schools. As an instructional coach for the last 7 years, I have been blessed to work with all 450 students and 25 teachers in our building.
Our students are a diverse group, with 48% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.
As a coach in our building, I feel it is my responsibility to make a difference in every classroom. Therefore, I challenge myself to continue learning about the best practices in education, so that I can do all I can to increase achievement in our building.
My Project
As an instructional coach, I strive to make a difference school-wide and need to continue my professional development to do the best job I can for our school. We have noticed a 40 percent increase in major behavior referrals in our primary grades. This training will help me understand the emotional needs of our young students and give me new strategies, so that I am able to help meet their social-emotional needs and better support them as they learn how to become successful elementary students. I love my job and feel it is a privilege to reach all 450+ students while working alongside our amazing staff. As our demographics have changed and too many of our younger learners come to school without the skills they need to succeed in school, I am seeking opportunities to learn what I can do to increase their social-emotional learning and make a difference in their lives.
