My Students
I believe it is my duty to provide a learning environment that gets my students excited about reading and technology.
Our classrooms are full of students from a variety of backgrounds, but we all come together as one big family at school. My students live in a small rural community of about five thousand people. Approximately 41.5 percent of students at our school are living at, or below, the poverty level. Most of their families consist of blue-collar workers living paycheck to paycheck.
My Project
Our school has a 'life skills' class for students with severe special needs. It is a challenge to find ways to get these learners to engage with books during their weekly library visit.
Emily Arrow is a former K-6 music teacher turned kid-lit singer/songwriter that has written captivating songs that link picture book stories with music. This project would purchase Emily's music CDs and one copy of each of the books that pair with her songs.
Titles include I Love You Already!, Be a Friend, The Dot, I Am Yoga and more!
