My Students

My students are creative, fun-loving and knowledgeable despite the many obstacles they face. Living in a rural, impoverished community might set some students back but not my scientifically minded students. We make the most of what we have but are in desperate need of more hands-on science material.

My 29 fourth graders love to learn by building, creating and applying their knowledge.

We use the resources we have creatively, to get the most out of them. They truly engage and comprehend when they are put in charge of their own learning with collaborative assignments and experiments. Our school is located in a small, low income community with a big heart. We don't have the best of everything but we have students who strive to make the world a better place. These children are going to make a positive impact on our community and our world. I want to make sure they have the resources to accomplish that.

My Project

My students will use the solar powered egg cookers to connect their knowledge about the different types of energy to an actual project. After learning about solar energy they will be able to apply their knowledge by not only cooking an egg with heat from the sun, but they will also construct the actual egg cooker to promote problem solving and engineering.

My students will gain a better understand of the power of solar energy by building the egg cookers and cooking the egg.

They will inquire about other ways to use solar energy to conserve natural resources. They will have a problem solving mind while building the egg cookers which could promote an interest in engineering.
