This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are diverse learners in a low income neighborhood. The range from kindergarten to 2nd grade and are very eager to learn. Our school has limited supplied due to the budget and I make my own supplies from scratch.
My students have the following disabilities, dysgraphia, autism, dyslexia, and emotional disturbance.
They range from visual learners to kinesthetic learners that love hands on activities. some of my students are able to sound out words but need more materials than I have in the room for them to practice with. Others are still working on letter identification and sounds. My students are neighborhood children that come from low income families and many do not have books at home except the ones I buy for them.
My students are aware that they are behind their peers in academics and work very hard to catch up in order to be placed back in a general education setting instead of the Special Education setting they are currently in.
My Project
I have chosen materials that will help my Special Education Students keep up and expand their learning. They are each eager to learn to read and love reading books. These materials will help my students meet both their own goals for literature and the goals I have created for them.
These materials will give my students the independence they need along with the education they deserve.
The Hot Dots and vocabulary CD-Rom will allow my students to take control of their on learning. They each are very independent and love to work on their own and sometimes in pairs.
Each of my students works very hard to prove that they are capable of learning and being put back into their general education classes with their peers. It is my goal to help them achieve their own goals for themselves. With these tools I can help them bridge that gap and no longer need my services.
