Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from countries all over the world. They are newcomer English Language Learners. This Covid-19 crisis has sparked a whole new issue in education - lack of access to technology.
My students are not only learning English, but they are also learning the 5th grade academic content.
They love coming to school! They are so isolated right now. Many parents have been thrown into remote learning, imagine if you did not speak the language of any of the homework. They need our help!
My Project
I am desperately requesting tablets/Chromebooks/iPads/laptops for my refugee children. They do not have the access or money to get the technology needed to continue learning during this quarantine and any future educational obstacles.
Due to the health crisis, my 5th graders are crammed into small apartments isolated from everything after moving to a new country just a few months ago.
90% of my students have little or no access to technology. Usually they may have one smartphone. This is delaying their English language acquisition as well as limiting access content curriculum.
For the many people at home with their children, trying to assist them with remote learning, imagine not speaking/reading/writing the language of all the assignments. Also, you do not have a device for them. This is hurting a student population that craves school and learning opportunities. Even if people could just send me their old/extra devices to give to my students. It would change their lives - literally!
