This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Here at MSPHS our focus is educating the children, however, the kids overall well being is definitely our concern. Here in the Mississippi deltas I've noticed that there are far more students than I ever imagined who live in single family homes and depend on the daily breakfast and lunch they receive from the school.
There are many factors that contribute the mindset of the students and focusing on their education.
Being in the position of being a safety net for our future generation, it's important that I have a grave interest in the students all around well-being.
My Project
The students are preparing emergency totes to have in the event of a major disaster. The students will take home their totes once the totes are completed. The students are currently learning about FEMA/MEMA CERT and MYpi, these totes are being created for each individual student to take home and only to use in the event of a major disaster .
The students, upon completion of this course, will be certified in many areas such as: CERT, basic CPR/First aid and a certificate of completion for this course.
The student will gain knowledge in many areas such as what the EOC (Emergency Operating Center's) are, Fire safety, how to splint, what to do in the event of an emergency, etc.
The students discussed the important of rotating out the non perishable items as well as rotating all batteries. The totes will be equipped with the items requested as well as emergency contact information.
