Greetings once again. I am the Director of the Walanis Community Steel Drum Band from Mott Hall 2 JHS in Central Harlem. You probably have heard over and over how much your donations benefit the children and build their self-esteem. Let me be the first to say, it does the same exact thing for the teachers too. It feels so good to know that even a total stranger can believe in your visions. It helps the teacher, knowing they don't have to be dependent on a school which might not believe in their vision, for resources (of course I'm not refering to my school). I am writing to you once again because of an incident on Feb. 24th. While almost everyone was heading home because of the impending snow storm, the band was preparing for a show at Columbia University. Before I clicked the sticks to start the first song, I realized the mini disk recorder was not recognizing the disk. I knew it was on its last leg (3 years of constant use) but I hoped it wouldn't expire right before a show. Unfortunately, it took its last breath in my hands:-). I have not been able to record the last two shows. We desperately need these recordings for practice, advertising and most importantly, personal CD's for the students. Some students bring home good test scores and report cards, my students also bring home CD's to show their pride. Finding an affordable, minidisk recorder is hard to do as they are not in stock and only the expensive models are available. I am turning to the DonorsChoose Community to ask for a Sony HZNHF800 MiniDisk Recorder. I have been able to record our band since '01. Please don't let the music end now. Thank you.
