Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have amazing 7th grade students. My students are entering a time in their life where things are changing. They are starting to look towards their future and learning that what they are learning in middle school is a stepping stone towards high school.

While they learn the key fundamentals of 7th grade they are also learning how to be middle school students with a strong character.

How to take on challenges and apply them to their daily lives to show kindness towards others. My 7th graders are leaving behind elementary school and stepping into my classroom to learn how to be responsible, kind, and hard working students.

My Project

Every year I bring in a book that will give insight to what life was like 60 years ago and how things have progressed but in order for us to keep progressing we need to remember how we got there. The book "Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom" allows students to see what a teen went through during the Civil Rights Movement and how she helped fighting for African American rights. This book is told by someone's first hand account and told in a way that students can see how a teen participated in the movement and how teens can make a difference. I want students to read novels/texts that bring perspective of the past to them and done where they can relate to it because the character is the same age (close too) as they are.
